Abstract Realism

Bringing faces to life with the precision of realistic pastel pencil portraits while embracing expressive freedom in abstract realism with acrylics, my art captures both detail and emotion in unique and captivating ways. The attention to detail in each pastel pencil portrait is evident through precise strokes that bring faces to life.

About Rachel

I’m Rachel Maytum, a UK-based artist specialising in Abstract Realism acrylic painting. My work explores the harmony between realism and freedom where people, animals, and elements of nature are painted with lifelike detail against expressive, flowing surroundings that evoke emotion and connection.

After two decades in Northern Ireland, where illness and a difficult marriage caused me to lose confidence in myself, I began rebuilding my life. In 2019, I moved back to England to be closer to my family and it was there that I rediscovered my lifelong dream of becoming an artist. I bought a set of pastel pencils, drew my first piece Leopard Eyes on 24th February 2019, and soon after completed my first people portrait of actor Sean Patrick Flanery, a turning point that changed everything.

Now, through Rachel Maytum Art, I share my love of painting with others offering original acrylic artworks and prints, celebrating beauty, emotion, and the connection between animal, people and nature.
